The story behind the art

The artwork shows a woman running with the footsteps representing their family, friends and community who have passed on that are running with her every step of the way for guidance, protection and support.

The clear path ahead shows the freedom the runner has when running.

Just outside the track there are people sitting which also represents past people who are watching over the runner.

In the background on both sides there are meeting places with people sitting in them which represents the runner’s community, friends and family who are present and are there supporting, protecting and watching over the runner’s journey.

The three Wedge Tailed Eagle (Bunjil) are flying over the runner as they are our protectors.

The whole piece shows the many support networks both past and present we hope runners can have to allow them to run freely in peace and safety.
